I love how BNI is always on to the next level of success and working in Excellence giving us the true value of being a member. Thanks Tim & Eric for a great pod cast.

You are so right, Tim. Getting Mentees familiar BNI Connect is critical to a fast start. I think it should be done in the first or second meeting. This is what I do:

I set an appointment with my Mentee for a time when they are at their computer, and we do a phone meeting. I have them set up a file on their computer desktop called “BNI” then, then a sub-folder called “Worksheets.” This is for later. We then log on to bninh.com and I walk them through how to access the Podcasts for CEU points, then we go to the password-protected members area and we go through REPORTS, CONNECTIONS, then EVENTS, and finally DOCUMENTS.

When we enter the members area, the MOST IMPORTANT button is that LITTLE HOUSE ICON in the navigation bar. It is the only way to get back home. I think some new members go in, get lost, and leave. That button is key to navigating the Members area.

First we open the tab “Chapter >Reports” and I show where the PALMS report is. We go through that and they can see what happens to those little slips of paper that get passed in the meeting. Sometimes this triggers discussion and questions which is good.

Then we go to “Connections” I show how to customize their profile (which they do later.) Then we go to the “Events” area, and I talk about the MSP, find the next available one and get them to commit to going (they can sign up right there.)

Then we move to the “Documents” section. To me, this is saving the best for the last. I show them which three worksheets I use in my one-to-ones (Contact Sphere, Last 10 Customers, GAINS), and I have them SAVE those Word docs to the folder they created on their desktop called “Worksheets.” I tell them they can begin working on these, or just print them out and bring to our next meeting where we can go over as we go through the Mentee Packet.

This is only an INTRODUCTION to the resources on BNI Connect- I’m sure I’ve missed something. What I have come to understand, being in the web design/internet business, is that many people are intimidated by technology. Even business owners! Telling them to go there is not as good as showing them how. That members area is a gold mine for every member. Is it possible for BNI NH to create some screen-shot training videos showing a process similar to what I have described?
